Grounded ships
Lens: Tamron 18-200 mm Camera: Pentax K-x Photo Location: El Saler, Valencia, Spain ISO: 100 Shutter Speed: 1/250s Aperture: F11

Last year, after a big storm, two ships were grounded on a beach near home. They stayed there for several weeks and one morning I woke up before sunrise to take a few shots. As you can see in the last picture, I was not the only one

Interesting, beautiful pic. #1 is great--you captured the Sun in the right spot. Very well done, and tfs!

Enjoyed the series. I really like the B&W (I am going through my color-less period at present.)

Yeah, I'm sure they were, but in the end they had to be towed.

Thanks a lot! I was recovering from a broken foot and I had to walk the 200-300 meters from one ship to the other to be able to capture the sun just there. Not funny at all to walk on the beach using crutches and carrying my camera at the same time. I had to abandon one of them (you can see it in the last photo, standing next to one of those poles by the right).

Thanks! The B&W was one of my last shots that morning. The sun was already high and colors were not as interesting as 30 minutes before.

That's funny. Pictures of the Sunrise during the sunrise. What a shame, the Sunrise will not rise today.

I like the first picture the most, but I think #2 best conveys the sense that the ship is not where it's supposed to be.

Good on you for getting out there and getting those shots even with a broken foot. Crutches are no fun on the beach, but you overcame it and took advantage of this rare opportunity. Well done.

There was a ship that ran aground during a storm many years ago on the Oregon coast, where my Mom lives. By the time they got a tug big enough to pull it off the beach, it had broken in half in the surf. The Coast Guard had to set it on fire to burn off all its fuel before it spilled all over the shore. It took almost ten years to remove the wreckage from the beach. If you're interested, here's the Wikipedia article about it:

Thanks a lot! I'm glad you like them.

scrathpaddy, thanks for the info about the New Carissa. There's an interesting story about another grounded ship here in Spain, the SS America, that ran aground off the coast of the island of Fuerteventura. The ship was built in 1940 and used as a troop transport during the war, nazi spies were found posing as members of her crew, it belonged to a lot of ship companies from different countries and it finally ran aground in 1994 while being towed from Greece. Before the accident they had planned to fix it and transform it into a 5 star hotel in Thailand.

Very cool shots, you must be dedicated hobbling about on the beach to get these captures, that's worth extra points too.
