Behind the center is the Oasis of Mara.

It has actually been dry since the 40's, and is now artificially watered.

It was somewhat underwhelming, but I was going into 29 Palms anyway for a fork so I could eat my macaroni and potato salad...

Lots of great birding at the oasis. I had a hard time leaving the place.

I did see a mountain quail run across the path ahead of me, though I was armed only with a DA 15...
