Cat's in the Bag
Lens: Sigma 50mm f1.4 Camera: Pentax K5 ISO: 1000 Shutter Speed: 1/150s Aperture: F1.7

This was shot off the floor with available light. Hmmm Looks better at home then on my laptop monitor so my brightness settings on my home screens might be off. Any comments or suggestions are welcome.
Thanks Gryphon

I love it! Black cats are so hard to capture and this one is nice one.

Great shot, they're such inquisitive creatures aren't they!

I think you could say it's underexposed, but it really works for the subject. I love how the details of the cat's face drift out of the darkness surrounding him... and they eyes... oh man!

I've had some people in a photo club almost fuss at me about how "Cat's don't have Yellow eyes" Like the photo is unrealistic some how. I know I pushed the saturation a bit and also desaturated every thing else... But cats do have yellow eyes. So aside from the puchyness of the image how unrealistic is it really? Once you know it's a selective color photo?

Just fishing for some opinions I guess.

Have you calibrated your home monitor(s) at all?

If you want to do any sort of post processing work you need to know that what you are seeing is as close to 'real' as you can get it. There are several, expensive, monitor calibration tools out there but I've always had good results from some of the online calibration sites. Have a look at these links for more info:

Monitor calibration - calibrate your monitor - Icehouse Designs
Monitor calibration and gamma - This site has very high quality, down-loadable, standard test images
Monitor Calibration
Photo Friday: Monitor Calibration Tool - I use this one for quick checks.
Basic Monitor Calibration from PawPrint.net - assisting with graphics setup
LCD monitor test images - This site has multiple test pages

Bear in mind that as monitors age the brightness/saturation will drift from the optimum settings and you will need to re-calibrate periodically. I usually check mine every 3-6 months or before starting on a visually critical project.

I love it! Perfect amount of detail in the cat's face with just a touch of contract between the cat's body and the inside of the bag. And those eyes pop right out!

What Susan said... I think it's terrific! Anybody who says cats don't have yellow eyes doesn't know anything about cats. Some certainly do!
