The Rest of Elk Island
Lens: Various Camera: K5 Photo Location: Elk Island, Alberta
Posted By: daacon, 06-10-2013, 12:07 PM

Here are the best of the rest from the weekend's trip to Elk Island .

Click on image twice for larger view

#1 - Small Bird don't know the species

#2 - It's a Hare

#3 - Dragon Fly

#4 - Ground Hog

#5 - Baby Bison

#6 - A few sunsets

#7

#8

#9 - One of the things I love about living here - this was taken around 10:05 pm still lots of light left the sun had just gone down

So these are the worst of the rest. Some delete their mistakes , me I share them in the hopes I at least remember them and try not to repeat them too often

#10 - It rained for a bit, then poured. I almost thought about going in but after a brief downpour it was letting up again. This rainbow was behind me and I did not notice it immediately so I don't really know how long it lasted. I do know once I noticed it , it only lasted a few more minutes. No lens check, no preview check , in the rain , raised lens these are the results.

#13 - All I have to say about this is don't try and shoot wildlife, in the dark, at ISO 6400 with a DA 12-24. She saw me get out of the car and was ready to bolt no time for a lens change. I should have know better. I know always have a long lens ready when I enter the park. Just forget to have one ready as I leave the park (it was around 10:30 pm)/

Nice, awesome photos. Really like the visible detail on the animals. And the landscapes are compelling, too. Makes the viewer feel like they are there

Some excellent images there dave, I'm starting to think you know what you're doing... part of me is still resisting that notion, but the evidence is starting to get overwhelming...

Lots of good stuff in these images Dave. The first bird looks like some sort of wren maybe? Envy you having such beautiful places and all that daylight to enjoy.

Daacon. Terrific shots. Thanks for posting. My guess is that the bird in the first shot is what birders taught me to call an 'LBJ', little brown job belonging to an extremely rare species sighting which is a tremendous achievement because the look like every other LBJ.

The bird in the first pic is a wren of some sort. Not sure which one...probably a House Wren.

That rainbow is quite unique with the drops, turned out better than you thought I bet. Lots of wildlife up your way, looks like it is going to be a great summer for you.
