As we are a truly International forum, can anybody translate the script on the back of this lassies neck.

I don't even know what language it's in, thinking maybe Hebrew or perhaps Russian.

Nah, doesn't look like Cyrillic. Kind of gives the impression it is read right to left.

Hmmmm, interesting question.

I'm no linguist but I can tell it's neither Russian nor Greek. It doesn't look Arabic either but does look like it reads right to left. Googling up images for Hebrew also writes that one off the list.

Further Googling leads me to believe it could possibly be Sanskrit (Indian Hindu language) but I am not 100% sure on that. It does look like Sanskrit but I wasn't able to find exact matches for the letters/words/symbols.

I had a stab at this too and couldn't get a match, let alone a translation.

It's written in Sanskrit. The three words are "Sat" "Chit' "Anand". It's read left to right like most languages.

Literal translation in english would be "truth" "consciousness" "bliss". The words used in conjunction mean "Eternal Blissful Consciousness".

The word originates from ancient Hindu books (called Vedas).

Wow, many thanks.

This forums an amazing place for gaining knowledge, I only posted this at 10:03 and by 11:38 my mystery language has been both identified and translated and even the source of the text given.

Is this something that would have traditionally be tattooed on the body or is this just a modern attempt at body art.

Every time I see things like that, I really do hope the person itself knows the meaning of the tatoo. Imagine a bunch of chinese pointing with the finger at you, laughing, and you don't know why

I would think they know, that's provided you don't get a joker of a tattoo artist.

An (overly nationalistic) remote acquaintance of mine thought he had the Chinese character for "America" tattooed on his ankle, and was mighty proud of that....

...until a Chinese colleague of mine saw him in shorts, and in his usually diplomatic style blurbed out "Why do you have 'rice' written on your ankle, there?"

That being the case where the deed is done, I think I'd go back and add to the tattoo, like add sweet & sour pork on the ankle to go with the rice.

And then seek out the original tattoo artist.

Or, just get the whole menu on the leg, deserts on the left buttock?
