Just Missed Getting the Bird
Lens: 70mm Camera: K5 Photo Location: New Mexico ISO: 80 Shutter Speed: 1/90s Aperture: F2.4
Posted By: Bob Harris, 06-30-2013, 09:52 PM

A handheld photo of a hawk swooping down. Terri spotted the bird in the tree and by the time I started to focus he launched downwards not more than 50 foot from us. I snapped a series of shots, but this is the best I got. I still like the background blur and colors even though the bird is not in focus, wish I had the camera set to a faster SS, but I didn't expect an event like this to occur.

Well, we should look at this as fortuitously artistic. You certainly captured the beauty, power and velocity of this hawk, the colours and lighting are gorgeous, and the composition is very interesting. I like the dark lines balancing the photo, abstractions of the trees and below the rocks, as the hawk zooms towards the edge of the frame. Nicely done Bob.

Hey buddy - at least you got the bird in the frame, which means you're way beyond me!

You sure changed my attitude on this Tess, I think by simply changing the title to an abstract it gives a different feel to the photo. Now if I can just take a different attitude on paying my taxes each year. Thank you so much for the kind words. Bob

The wing looks like it's on fire or maybe the painted on kind from a '57 chevy. Cool shot!

honestly Jer, I was really surprised to get any images, because it flew back so fast. Guess it was on the hunt. Have a great 4th with family.

Good decision to keep and post. The blur works here. The color is fantastic. The shot would actually make for a great "sofa size" canvas. :^)
