This was shot in spring when there was still some ice and snow on the ant nest. It was one of the first warmer days and one of the first days when these ants started to move around.
That small ice block was on their path and this ant started to spray acid when I waved my hand couple of times over it.

Wow. The ice may have been good luck, but skill was needed to capture it so well. Amazing.

It looks like light is shining through the ant's body. Was this natural light, off-camera flash, or something else?

All natural light. Actually it's not the ant's body. There was a leaf inside that block of ice if I remember correctly.
