Taking My Nephew Shooting
Lens: Samyang 35mm F1.4 Photo Location: Pawnee Grasslands
Posted By: Colorado CJ, 07-13-2013, 04:28 PM

Just got back from taking my nephew out shooting in the Pawnee. I've been teaching him how to shoot since he was around 4 years old, starting with an old single shot .22 rifle.

At 12 he is now a crack shot with just about any rifle and is starting to get very good with a pistol. It as taken him longer with a pistol since that is a lot of weight to hold out from your body for a little guy. He is growing and getting stronger though, and today he was shooting clays like a pro with my 9mm's and a .22 1911.

Well here are a few pictures I shot of him while he was shooting.

Here's one he took of me while I was busting clays. Pretty decent little shooter! (the nephew )

Great pictures! Good to see photos of a young man learning responsible gun ownership.

Thanks. Yeah, young people with guns isn't a good thing, UNLESS they are well supervised and have had plenty of instruction. It then turns out to be a real good way to teach respect, proficiency, awareness and focus.

I guarantee my nephew will not be one of those kids that has an accident with a firearm or misuses one to cause others harm. In years previous, the boyscouts, youth groups, and even school shooting teams taught young kids to respect and use firearms. We no longer do this, to our detriment.

Thanks! Just doing my little part. We are a family who have grown up around the shooting sports. It is a great way to spend the day, with fun competitions against each other.

Not many 12 year olds can hit 4" clays at 500 yards consistently

Excellent! I too grew up around shooting sports. It's great! A kid in my area can hit targets at 1000 yards out. No one believed it so now him and his dad put on mini exhibitions for visitors to the ranch.

Your photos are excellent!

Great shots. He has a good stance. Looks well taught. Doing any competition? IDPA, USPSA?

glad he can shoot

What makes this kid really cool is not how well he shoots but the baseball team he supports. So when are you going to teach him how to shoot with the pentax?

Good to see even though I'm not a shooter.

Nice captures of the casings being ejected.

This country is paranoid about guns. Look at this story: Australian Olympic swimmers Nick D'Arcy and Kenrick Monk pose with guns in Facebook photo

Yeah, 2 ways to learn about guns :

The right way
and
The wrong way

Keep him on the right path and he should grow into a right fine young man ....

To the rest out there , ignorance is part of the wrong way ... Dont let TV or Hollywood teach them nonsense ...
