What an awful shame, captured by a very poignant photo, Bob.

Devastating Bob. I can't image what those people went through during that time and to lose everything to boot.

It looks like the trees did OK, just the house got burned.... two trees next to the house look blackened. And how small was that house? Interesting but... puzzling.

Excellent work Bob, both technically and emotionally.
One can only imagine the fear, panic and eventual sense of despair as the only option is to leave.
I sincerely hope those who lived here got away with their lives and can re build.

All the trees are lost, not sure about the house size there are many 2 and 3 story homes up that way, but I am sure a lot was lost in personal possessions and memories. Here is a color pic of the pines and the remains of another home, everything up that way is black.

I can't either Susan, I hear you just have to start over, but at a certain age it is hard to start over. Especially if you didn't have insurance to help you out.

That is tough to see.
We saw similar scenes when we helped with cleanup at sites after a big fire in our mountain resorts (Arrowhead/Big Bear) near here a few years ago.
Just charred trees, foundations and chimneys were left standing.
We helped the homeowners sift through the ashes for anything that could be saved, but not much was left.

thanks for looking Grant and great comment. Two lost their lives trying to escape the inferno, they waited too long to leave their home.

It really is Tim, I just hope the rains don't cause flooding there like it is in the Waldo burn scar. The pics were taken just past the town of Black Forest.
