Puffins from Skomer Island
Lens: F* 250-600mm Camera: K-5 Photo Location: Skomer ISland ISO: 400 Shutter Speed: 1/1000s Aperture: F8

Earlier in the month I was lucky enough to go on my first trip to Skomer. It was almost too perfect, it was hot (in Wales!), the sea was like a mill pond, the puffins were at their best and to top it off, before we left to come home we also watched Andy Murray win Wimbledon!

Here are a few of my favourites from the weekend with a full gallery of puffins on my website here.

Sharp in the head with the right amount of blur in the wings.
Any of them handheld with that fine lens?

Great photos! I really like that the puffin photos are "in action", because usually the puffins look very passive and its just photos of them sitting on ocean waves. Great bird and great photos

Great shots and the breeding colors of their beaks really stand out. They are so comical with their mouths full of fish. Thanks for sharing these.

Hi everyone, Thanks for all the great comments, really appreciated.

@ Mickey, no, none of these are handheld as the combo is just way too heavy! Day one was using the Gitzo 5562GTS, day two saw me leave that behind and swap for a GM5541 monopod to save some weight!

There is also a complete set of 15 images on my website here!
