I like retro but the wife wants a change.
Posted By: charliezap, 07-25-2013, 04:31 PM

One of the bathrooms is 1970's with the colors. It is neat and clean but the boss wants a change.I like it but my vote doesn't go very far.I tried this shot with the K5 in one of the HDR modes. In the long run I'll lose out.--charliezap

I like the old style Charlie and that toilet has a lot of history to it and the tile and grout look brand new. Why change, what is next, you....?

Charlie, you got one chance and only one chance. That room could be transformed with a white sink and john and some bold new wallpaper and flooring. The payment to a professional designer who isn't trying to get all your money for some advice might be the best money ever spent.

That would leave some toy money for you.

However I foresee a new 10-15K bathroom in your future.

Sorry Charlie, you're wrong on this one. I like retro too, but that is what the Mrs. wants, then it is the right thing.

You could buy a lot of lenses for what it costs to redo a bathroom.

Wow, your wife is picky, maybe you could point out that 40% of the world's population lacks indoor plumbing, but I doubt it'll help. LOL.

I kinda like it as it is.
Clean, neat.
Maybe the floor and vanity cabinet, but otherwise I think it's fine.

Nice shot.

I like it the way that it is, but yes, it does look a little dated.

Maybe just replacing the tiles with bigger ones and the sink with some grey tiles (and a white sink maybe) would pick up the countertop nicely.

You could point out (very tactfully) that we don't just change things because they look a little dated. As a punishment I could see you never being allowed to upgrade to a new body again! (Camera body that is.)
But I don't mind the bathroom. Maybe a more modern approach with the curtains? Be sure to tell us what the outcome is, if you have enough fingers left to use a keyboard.

And a new sponge probably won't be enough of a remodel for Mr. Zap

First throw it in as an entry to the post-processing contest and see what suggestions come out first.

Sorry, but she is right! Mrs Rupert was on me for 25 years to remodel my bathroom.....I had already done hers but mine was still a wreck...and avocado green!
I did mine myself...took me a couple of months working off and on. Stripped it clean and started all over. Here is a link to the start/finish so you can imagine what is involved. The last few shots are Mrs Rupert's bathroom....
Bathroom Makeover - a set on Flickr

I think I spent around $8k on materials and fixtures, and I have enjoyed it immensely, it was well worth it moneywise, but it damn near killed my old bones to do it.

Good luck on whatever you decide! Remember, women do love a nice bathroom!

Regards!

You should but if she is like my wife it won't change her opinion one lick.

Hey Capn, my family owned a '63 Comet convertible about that color - brings back memories, although I admit it's an odd association.

I've learned (especially since I've retired) to simply agree with my wife - life runs smoother that way.

The blue is fine. That color is used a lot actually even now. It's not like it's avocado green. You can do a lot with accessories and paint I'd suggest that before you completely overhaul the bath and stuff. Get rid of the dated border. Paint the walls a nice egg shell. Better yet use a sponge and get some texture and maybe a second color in there when you paint. Get some stencils she likes and do that instead of the border. Get new carpets, a new cabinet, soap holders, new curtains and such. Hate that sink counter? Mosaic it. You don't have to change out the whole thing to give it a facelift. Blue as a color is pretty versatile actually. Take her to your local craft store and start there. It's fun to do it yourself and they can give you plenty of ideas to work with.
