I have a thing for old tractors, that Allis Chalmers thing is so cool. Love the colors in all these shots! Looks like a cool place.

How does the lens compare with your DA 18-135? That is, do you find there is much overlap such that one or the other is redundant, or what is your justification for owning both? WR/reach for 18-135 and better low light/IQ for 17-70?

I'm struggling to rationalize buying the Sigma 17-70, even though I really want one. I already have an old model Sigma 18-50 f/2.8 zoom, and a DA 18-135, so the new Sigma 17-70 would fit right in between, but I may not really need all three zooms that kind of overlap in focal length and capabilities...

76fan i would think your pretty well covered...especially if that sigma is for full frame...didnt need it just wanted it...and i think i like the IQ a little better on the sigma as opposed to the DA 18-135...but then I like the reach on the 135...as for WR I use a raincoat if really needed...why take a chance...

cpobuttons-- thanks for the feedback and advice. I like my Sigma 18-50 f/2.8 but it's an old lens (and not full frame capable), from 2004, and lacks nice modern convenience features like HSM. But I can't quibble with f/2.8 throughout the focal range, it's very nice for that! My plan was to essentially replace the Sigma 18-50 with the new Sigma 17-70 contemporary-- losing some speed while gaining a bit more reach, HSM, nicer build quality, probably better image quality, and closer focusing. There definitely are times when I find a max of 50mm to be a bit too short; getting up to 70mm would be ideal for indoor and walkaround purposes. Still, I have my 18-135mm to break through to the 70mm length (and then some!) ... it's just that the Sigma 17-70 is a little faster and apparently a bit better image quality than the 18-135, which is what intrigues me (I don't like using my 18-135 indoors that much, nor do I find the pictures I take with it all that great - it's fine for a superzoom, but there are times I want a little better image quality).

So... I think I'll probably put this contemporary lens lower on my priority list, and start with what I really need/want rather than "nice to have." So, Sigma 18-35 f/1.8 comes first in line, then I'll see about adding (or replacing) any other zooms to my camera bag...
