Road Trip - Sylvan Lake
Lens: DA* 16-50 Camera: K5 Photo Location: South Dakota

Day 2 - we get up from the cozy confines of Hill City at 05:30 am. We wanted to catch a sunrise on Mount Rushmore. It was extremely foggy , but as Canadians we are ever the optimists and off we went. The trip was about 12 miles who knows right ?

The fog actually got thicker the closer we got. When we arrived at Mount Rushmore , we could not even see the exit signs for the parking lot, let alone the mountain . So back to Hill City and the hotel for breakfast (as nothing was open in Keystone yet), At breakfast in the restaurant we told our story to one of the managers there and she proceeded to tell us how 'lucky' we were. She had been to Mount Rushmore 100's of times and only once not been able to see it through the fog not really sure she understood the nature of our trip

What to do - so we said the heck with it and headed down Needles Highway. It was still extremely foggy and we could not see much. FIrst area was Sylvan Lake. The lake looked beautiful in the fog and here are some of my attempts to capture it.

Great Series!

Very nice photos, Dave, the fog turned out to be a good mood-setting atmosphere for the lake scene.
I especially like the first photo, great minimalist B + W scenic.

Well, Sylvan is quite beautiful my friend and really looks great in color and of course without fog. No sense in going up the Needles Hwy in the fog, that's for sure.

Lovely stuff; interesting to see a few variations on a subject.

Gooooood! Fun and interesting to see the different treatments and the fog really made the day (also serving to help obscure the old guy).
