It doesn't get much closer than this.
Lens: Pentax 18-250 Camera: K5 Photo Location: Saugus Ma. ISO: 200 Shutter Speed: 1/90s Aperture: F9.5

It's a great day when you can take only 9 pictures and have 4 decent keepers.Mrs. Hummingbird let me stand less than 2ft from the feeder and take several pictures with the flash. They were taken with the Pentax 18-250 lens at about 70-80mm f/l and cropped not that much..The vivitar flash was set to the lowest level. The pics were at 200 ISO at 1/80 sec around f/9. I have my bright red Red Sox shirt on and am going to stand by the feeder with a small red cup filled with nectar and see if she will approach.--charliezap

Beauties !!! Awesome shots.

About the flash ... does it "affect" the bird in any way?

They don't seem to mind the flash at all.At least that's what I'm seeing.--charliezap

It makes it extremely easy to get keepers when these little guys have no fear and don't mind me standing right next to them.--charliezap

Beautiful shots. I have really enjoyed them at my feeder this summer as well. I've gotten some close shots using the Tamron 90 macro by setting it on a tripod and triggering the shutter remotely. I don't think those are females, though. From the stripes on the throat it looks like a young male.
