Waves, breakwater & light
Lens: Sigma 17-70mm f2.8-4.5 Camera: K-5 Photo Location: Petten, NL ISO: 80 Shutter Speed: Above 6s Aperture: F8

Yesterday evening (Aug.14th) I shot a few at the beach near Petten on the Dutch Northsea coast where breakwaters protect the coastal dam that keeps the sea from flooding the land behind the dam. The breakwater was about to disappear under incoming tide and djeez, does that go fast! 30Minutes after I shot this image, the breakwater had disappeared beneath the surface.

Intentionally used an ND filter (10-stops) to get the exposure down to 8 seconds in order to smooth out the rolling waves crashing against- and over- the breakwater.

Shot in raw, used a slight tonemap to balance the darker parts with the sky, applied some levels&curves to improve tonal range and contrast in Showfoto (part of Digikam DAM software) and last but not least some sharpening with NeatImage for Linux which does not only do noise reduction but also has a mean sharpening algorithm on-board.

DateTime - 2013:08:14 20:45:33
ExposureTime - 8 seconds
FNumber - 7.10
ExposureProgram - Manual control
ISOSpeedRatings - 80
FocalLength - 17.00 mm
Quality - RAW
ISO - 80
White Balance - Auto
