Tiger World
Camera: K-5 Photo Location: Rockwell, NC
Posted By: slowpez, 08-26-2013, 06:47 AM

These shots were taken at Tiger World in Rockwell, NC. Tiger World is a nonprofit animal conservation and educational center dedicated to rescue, rehabilitation, and preservation of exotic animals. They take no tax dollars by the way. My first impression of the place was not favorable. The enclosures looked small and too much like what they were, cages. After spending several hours there though, I realized that the enclosures were quite large but just looked small because they lacked the phony rocks and landscaping that many zoos include in their exhibits. The animals were some of the healthiest we have ever seen and you could get pretty close to them but there was a lot of heavy wire between you and them so that was difficult to deal with sometimes when photographing them. I ended up converting some to B&W and on others I just went with the wire.

I like 'em Susan, every one. I find it hard to get portrait-like photos such as these in zoos. Well done.

those who've not been treated with the respect they deserve and now have a chance to live their lives with dignity...

I especially like the tiger photo, looks like you could just go in a cuddle with him.

Great job under some very difficult conditions - some really fine portraits here. Also good to hear of the conservation work they are doing.

Wonder if they could use some of your images to promote their work?
