Easter Egg Hunt
Posted By: mwcfire, 03-24-2008, 09:27 AM

I've had my K10D for about a month now. Trying to learn the "thirds" rule.

I took these with my 55-200 @ 200 f5.6 (I think).

I liked the Bokeh it produced. Exposure on both was under and as you can see I changed it on one more than the other.

My kids were running around getting easter eggs in the yard when I took these.

Both encouragement and constructive criticism greatly appreciated! I am still in the sponge stage trying to soak all this up!!!

Nice photos of your nice kids. Personally I would include the whole head but that might just be me.

The lighting on the first one is very nice. Generally if you are taking a horizontal portrait shot, you want your subject to on the left or right of the frame. I would have probably included the whole head. The second shot needs some fill flash to bring out her features from the shadows. And again not crop the top of the head (just my preference) Lovely children.

So I should generally get the whole head. I guess I took the "fill the frame" to the extreme.

And make them off center when shooting horizontally. I can do both those in the future.

I often cut the top of the head when getting very close, but this discussion reminds me of one bad habit I some times fall into: Using the centre focusing I might focus on the eyes and the lower the camera back so that the centre of the image in on the nose area, but I don't notice that I have cut off the top of the head unintentionally
