Shot in the ruins-turned-memorial of St. Nikolai Church in Hamburg. Most of the Church was destroyed during allied bombing raids, the spire is still standing because it was used as an orientation marker

The sculpture "Prüfung"* by Edith Breckwoldt is part of the anti-war memorial and dedicated to the memorial of the Prisoner-of-war camp Stalag X-B, the socle is made from bricks from the destroyed barracks of Stalag X-B that were collected by local school children. (* rough translation in this case: trial by hardship)

The inscription reads:
„Kein Mensch auf der ganzen Welt kann die Wahrheit verändern. Man kann sie nur suchen, sie finden und ihr dienen. Die Wahrheit ist an jedem Ort.“
(the quote is attributed to Dietrich Bonhoeffer, rough translation: "No human in the world can change the truth. One can only seek it, find it and serve it. The truth is in every place")

The juxtaposition is heartrending.
