Who put this pond here?!
Lens: Helios 40 Photo Location: Tempe, Arizona ISO: 100 Aperture: F2
Posted By: scratchpaddy, 09-01-2013, 10:29 PM

This morning, I walked to the dog park and found a pond in its place. It seems the dog park is the lowest point in a very large, very flat park complex, and the water had reached its natural conclusion after Friday's rain. I was surprised to find it on Sunday, though, because these things usually don't take long to clear up.

Anyway, I'm glad I found it before it dried up. The dogs had tons of fun.

The water was a lot deeper than it looked. Dogs would just step off of the path here, thinking it was just a little puddle, and in they went.

Watch out for those sea monsters!

In retrospect, my Soviet hand grenade might not have been the best lens for this occasion, but I can work with it. Corner sharpness is overrated, anyway.

After this mudbath, it was time for a bath back home.

Oh, you should have seen the looks on their faces when they went in. Dogs normally keep their heads above water at all costs, so the only way you'll see them dive in headfirst is by accident. Sadly, I never managed to get a picture of that.

Thanks Paul. I wonder what Tino would have thought about it. It's always nice to get a break from the heat.

I'm so happy my own reaction translates through the pictures. #3 is my second favorite, even though I missed the focus a bit. I'm partial to the first shot, myself, since it's my dog, and she looks so powerful in that shot. The Helios' radial bokeh kind of makes the subjects explode out of the frame in those two shots.
