Ringflash Portraits for C&C
Posted By: camperguy01, 03-24-2008, 11:30 PM

Wisconsin had a little bit of a snow storm last Friday. What better way to spend the day then taking pics of my favorite subject....

My daughter, K100D, FA 50 f/1.4 & ringflash -

I like the third shot the best. Interesting look with a bit of attitude.

Well done, the first one looks like a little to much flash or perhaps to close. I like the others and agree with James last one is the best.

I definitely like #3 ... I prefer images where the model (in this case your daughter) isn't actually looking directly at the camera.

The eyes in #2 are SHAAAARRP indeed ... that's my 2nd favourite shot out of the series.

#1 is pretty much what Dave said ... either too close ... or too much flash. It really flattened the shot out.

All in all though ... well done ... I'd be proud to produce these.
Good thing you have a photogenic daughter that is willing to model for you.

good shots

#2 in particular, the slight angle from the top it brings out the face and focuses your attention.

Thanks for the kind comments and suggestions.

That's what I like about posting here - I can always count on helpful suggestions. The comments about #1 having too much flash are right on. Funny how sometimes you don't see things until they are pointed out. Something to watch out for next time.

Thanks again!

Couldn't find one to purchase so I went the DIY route. I built mine like this one - DIY Ringflash : Photography Bay

Cost about $10 and a few hours time.....
