In the box

This is a shot taken in the signalbox at Alresford station on the Mid Hants Railway (Watercress line) in Hampshire. I wanted to take a shot showing both the interior and Signalman as well as the train departing. The signal box is in shade at this time of day, but has a nice high white painted ceiling, so I was able to bounce the flash (Metz 48) from above and too the right. The signalman was very obliging and stood by the block instrument. The Alresford-Ropley token and its pouch which would hang to the left of the ones in the window is now safely on the footplate of "Black 5" 45379, and the home signal is "off" allowing the train to depart! The glass in the windows of the box may or may not be the original panes from 1868, it certainly has enough ripples in to be 150 years old!

As an ex-signalman (we call them signallers) I like the pic. (I retired 3 years ago.)

I love the colours and the ripples in the glass. The lighting is excellent - l like the way the outside isn't blown out. The block instrument is well lit, too. (I've never used a block instrument. I was at boxes that used route setting switches or long levers. See https://www.pentaxforums.com/forums/groups/84-railroad-photography/2088-signal-boxes.html )
