Bee ( Pentax K5 and 18-55 Kit lens )
Posted By: old4570, 09-16-2013, 10:23 PM

Some times , I forget what this combo can do ...

The DA 18-55 AL 2 does a rather good job , and makes a lot of other lenses redundant ... I have a lot of lenses to put on Ebay one of these days ..

Awesome looking shots, especially for a kit lens! Are these cropped, or did you use some extension tubes or close-up filters?

Hurrah for the 18-55, in the hands of someone who knows how, it is a very useful lens.

Got in as close as I could for the actual shoots , and then cropped for posting ... ( Close up filters might be on the cards )

But Im thinking dedicated lens like Sigma or Tamron AF 1:1 before Christmas

Been eyeing those, too, $300 isn't too bad, either, given the price of the Pentax AF Macro lenses.

FWIW, the Hoya Close-up filters are pretty damn good for close-up filters... Pricey at about $50 for a new set, but I've seen them on KEH for under $20. Here's a shot with them, though:

Unfortunately, the focus isn't dead on (still haven't gotten used to manual focus on a plan matte screen), but that's with all the Hoya filters stacked on a 50mm f/2 at f/16 with a homemade macro flash out of a Vivitar 560d

Very nice shots. I hardly ever use my kit lens, need to try it out more.
