Perceptions of Fall - Within Leaves
Lens: Tamron 90 f/2.8, Pentax 50 f/1.7 Camera: K-5, DP2 Photo Location: The woods

Having fun trying different out different ideas...some results better than others.

Taking a page out of Freeman Patterson's book and standing inside the canopy of trees... I have been trying this for two years and still cannot match his results. The idea is to stand inside the foliage shoring your macro lens right up against a clump of leaves while focussing on something in the middle distance or far away, always looking for a tiny window that functions as a peep-hole or frame and keeping the depth of field very shallow.

I would love to see others give this a shot. Here are some of my results... none great but better than last year. Thank you for having a look!

That is extremely hard to do when you don't own a macro lens
You have some really nice shots in all three of your Perceptions threads threads

Thank you again carriangas! I have been so busy I haven't had a lot of time for posting and then when I finally catch up with my photos I have way too many to share. I am glad you enjoyed all three series.

Thanks Partrick... actually, while Freeman Patterson mentions the macro he also mentions a telephoto. I used my Pentax 50 f/1.7 for the shot everyone likes (2nd) ... it is not macro and works like a telephoto lens on a APSC camera. It is a lot of fun to try, but also really frustrating.

Thanks Bob!!! You can use flowers or bushes too, if trees are hard to come by!

I can understand why #2 is a favorite but I like #3. It speaks more to me than the others. I guess I march to a different drummer than most.

Thanks Cee Cee... I know they are weird to look at, and I hope to get better at this. Definitely challenging and fun to try.

Thank you leptin... that one has a kind of tunnel effect I liked.

Marching to different drummer makes life *very* interesting! That pink is really striking. I am wondering if I could have done a better job post processing, but liked it enough as is to share. Thanks for commenting patrick

AAAhhhhh, the perfect touch, tess. Making an analogy to music: you're not just recording the sounds, you're playing an instrument. I'm really impressed with these ideas.
