A Pensive Franchitti
Camera: Panasonic LX5 Photo Location: Houston Grand Prix
Posted By: Sailor, 10-04-2013, 06:41 PM

This afternoon at the first of the three days of the Houston Grand Prix, I was able to grab this candid shot of Dario Franchitti in the pits after qualifying trials. "Street" photography like this makes me uncomfortable, but this was too good an opportunity to miss, so I sucked it up, composed the shot and pushed the button.

Hey thanks, buddy. Franchitti had a bad wreck this afternoon - he's in Mermorial Herman in the Houston Medical Center in fair condition. I hope he's going to be OK.

No kidding, we haven't had much internet access the last couple of days due to traveling. I'll take a look and hope all is well, I hate those wrecks, really sickens me.

Several fractured vertebrae (no surgery required), a broken ankle. News reports here say he will be released from hospital today. Scary, scary wreck, 13 bystanders and a track worker also injured. Fortunately none seriously.

Based on what I saw in the Houston Chronicle this morning, Franchitti's injuries are notable but not serious - at least in a racing driver's world.

Thank goodness.

Your pic is probably saleable to a newspaper.

Yeah, you got a really good shot there Jer. Very unfortunate about his accident. I feel some of his pain, but fortunately, not the back pain. I do wish him a fast and complete recovery.

Best Regards!

Yeah, I'm glad he's not hurt too badly - that would be a shame, indeed.

Thanks, Rupert. And I wish you a fast and complete recovery (that clutch is waiting and just itching to get pushed )

Hey Dave - yeah, Franchitti is going to be out of action for a while, but it could have been much worse.

I haven't seen "Rush", but I'm looking forward to doing so. I usually find Ron Howard movies appealing.
