Old wood
Posted By: gawan, 03-28-2008, 03:16 PM

The only thing in this picture that isn't wood is the old iron anchor. This boat is from an outdoor museum; it was used on Sundays to transport people to the church, when the shortest way was by water and there was no roads. It took eight men to row.

WOW! Very nice . If it was me I would pick the time that the sun rays went through ( or use a flash ) . Still cool as it is .

Thanks Tran!

Actually I had hard time to adjust the exposure, I did not use my flash because I did not had it with me. Tried the on-camera flash, but it was useless here. When processing I decided to allow some over exposure on the wall openings in exchange to have it better inside.

Nah , I mean flash from the sides . You have the "lines " going toward the end . So by shooting the flash you will have some rays going across the photo . Just a different take .

I don't know how dark it was but I would shoot it on a tripod . Manual focus on the beam at the end . Using say F16 .
Ofcourse , easy said than done .

Thank you very much for the advice. This was taken hand held while walking my dog, so did not have a plan

Fortunately I can always go back there and try what you suggested with a tripod. I probably have to try waiting for better natural lighting situation. Anyway this is so interesting subject and worth while to work on more.

ADDED: there is a better example exposure wise - but too noisy to show here - in my picasa "old wood series"

Very nice work Georg. I enjoyed looking at your Picasa album also. Looks like a wonderful historical site.

I like it. The photo has a nice feel to it, and I enjoyed having some of the history behind it as well.
