More shots from the Vivitar 105mm
Posted By: Igilligan, 03-28-2008, 04:09 PM

It has been a while since I got this lens, and I picked up the tamron 28-75 2.8 2 weeks later, so I have been bouncing back and forth between them.

Here are some little shots with the Series 1 105 macro.

Nice pictures. "Snail Disaster" is my favorite. The two flower shots are excellent, IMHO.

I forgot one...

Thanks Paul and Snowcat... I liked that first flower shot and the snail shot to...

But I accidently posted the little white flower shot when I really wanted to post this Grass shot. I know I should have opened up the Ap more to blur that grass, but I love the way the light is hitting the yellow grass... And how sharp it looked in the original.

A quick crop of Bud's flower...

Hey Bud, It is very similar to Dan's but just different enought to be different. As I said, trying to imagine it large and moving the crops around was really a fun exercise for me. I had never spent that much time on a macro crop before.
I now know I should spend more time on my crops, as just a slight difference can change the flow and balance of the photo. You learn something new when you least expect it.

Anyway here was my try at the crop... I do love your original, I was just trying it without the other flower on the right being so obviously the center of a flower, in keeping with the
macro-abstracto-ness of the photo.

Thanks for giving me a lesson on how important the crop is...

Thanks Kim and Edwin

Thanks Kim for the kind words... The lighting on that grass shot was at the perfect time of day... I wish I could spend more time shooting around then.. but the girls are at the peak of their attention needs about that time!

Hey Edwin, after playing around with Bud's photo today. I decided to try a different crop on my purple flower shot... Do you think it is better or worse than the original?

Thanks for your help...

Igilligan - I really like the way you have cropped this to bring out the light on the focused petals and allow the background to recede. Since I am just learning and reading about composition, did you intentionally set the angular lines, and the way the light and color bring the eye into the photo, but don't move it off the right edge?

I was absolutely locked on the tips of the light orange petals.

I don't know enough yet to comment on the color, but what really matters is that my immediate reaction was - NICE PHOTO!
