Trip to the Dorset Fire tower
Lens: Sigma 8-16, DA*60-250 Camera: K-5, DP2 Photo Location: Dorset Ontario, Canda

There was an network of fire towers in Ontario that were the spotting system for forest fires. WHile not technically one of those towers, the Dorset tower is actually a surplus DEW line tower located near the location of an older fire tower, the Dorset tower is one of few places where you can go to get a glimpse of the old fire tower experience.

You can see the fire tower up on the ridge behind the hardware store.

The tower, 100 feet of pure climbing joy.

Headed up

Views from the tower..

The Hamlet of Dorset

The crew

Headed back down..

Afterwards, a few views from the Hamlet of Dorset

Thanks, for commenting. I huffed and puffed for those shots. Ioften do a lot more than a 100 foot vertical but not usual straight up all at once.

The lady told us when they were first built a film crew came out here from BC to do a movie about the Fire Tower spotters, and got trapped up there for a night in a lightning storm. Given they had to come here to find a tower, I'm guessing you don't have one, but hey, maybe you'll luck out. One of our advertised tours is to the last remaining intact firepower in that you can actually climb and in original condition, in northern Ontario. but it's an 8 day trip for people in good shape , would cost close to 1k per person and so far no one's taken us up on it. We are probably going to do it on our own, just because we'd both like to do it one more time before we're too old.
