Another deserted coal mining town now owned by the park service. Not much left but the old coal shute.

Quilt barns can be found throughout this area.

Thanks Dave. We took a six week swing to Virginia, West Virginia, Ohio and Alabama. Had a great time even though the govt. was shutting down campgounds and parks the whole trip. That is a coal shute by the way, not a bridge. It goes way up into the hills.

Great Series Slowpez, I live in coal mining area the Hunter Valley, Australia and it will be a few more years or decades left in the industry around here.

Quilt Barns? is this like a flag or decorative thing. Seems there is a few beds with Quilts missing.
Thanks for posting.

I think, but am not sure, the painting of quilt patterns on barns began in Ohio by a young art student and has since spread to surrounding states. You can find samples that are very complex to very simple ones. Some counties have maps that will help you locate them but we like to just come across them, a little surprise for the traveler.

Love the colors on this thread and it does look like the coal chutes are in remarkable condition. Does the park dept buy up these abandoned properties. Beautiful country there.

This particular property was donated after the death of the last Nuttallburg. Not much left to see except a few foundations and the coal shute.

Thanks Jer. My husband can have credit for the composition as he insisted I crop it (I hate cropping.)
