Not quite "birds" of a feather...
Posted By: SouthShoreRob, 03-30-2008, 07:23 PM

So at long last the weather is beginning to improve here on the South Shore and so it is that I am actually able to get out with the boys and poke around the backyard some. Caught these two "birds" yesterday afternoon while the sun was shining and the sky quite blue.

Both with my (newly recalibrated) K10D and the FA* 200mm lens.

First shot is quite good.

I like shots of birds doing something other than sitting, as it displays much more of their character and markings.

p.s. I think the second one is a Gas Hawk

The duck is a great shot. Seems to be lots of noise in the second tho. What ISO did you use?

The 2nd one looks like a DLH Dizzy 8. The sky is a little noisy, too. The 1st is terrific.

Actually, the ISO is quite low, I think it's just that in such a scene, the sharpening algorithm is too strong. The PP I used - in a hurry - was auto levels and then filter sharpen. Plus, the condensing the site uses to minimize bandwidth doesn't help either, I suppose.

Thanks everyone!

Here it is, untouched but for the cropping and resized down to 800 wide. I mean this thing was WAY up in the air eh...
