Halloween Veggies

Today's featured item: squash.

I was driving down US 101 in Oxnard the other day, when I saw loads of pumpkins in a field about a quarter mile off the freeway to the right. I decided to exit the freeway and check this place out. I was rewarded by piles of all kinds of weird squash varieties. There are some bizarre ones that I didn't post, one in particular looking like a pumpkin with a runaway case of skin tumors.

Well spotted, they look scary even before being carved.

Wonderful colors. The first one reminds me of hats for some reason.

Nice shots! Squashes can be pretty freaky.

They look like a variety called 'Turks Turbans' or just 'Turban Squash', so you're not the only one

Love the second one. How's you manage the paint-like effect?

Thanks g026r (can I call you g?)...
The paint-like effect you see in the second image comes from Topaz Simplify, with the simplify slider set pretty low.

They sure do. We grow and eat the Turbans and a few stranger looking ones.
