This is a view of a seldom visited part of California, even though it's less than 100 miles from Los Angeles. The road below you connects the towns of Ojai and Maricopa, which is about a 45 minute drive. You probably won't see more than a few cars in those 45 minutes and you're out of cell phone coverage. The picture looks out to the north towards the Cuyama Valley, with the Temblor Range in the distance. On the other side of the Temblors is the San Joaquin Valley and the city of Bakersfield.

Amazing that those uninhabited places exist in California. Beautiful spot and beautifully captured.

Thanks everyone for the compliments. If you ever get out this way and have time to kill, I really recommend this road.

What a cool landscape, Jerry. I'd sure love to drive that road if that single, visible curve is indicative of its nature.

Thans Sailor, and yep, what you see is what you get for about an hour. From a few miles north of Ojai to a few miles south of Ventucopa (check Mapquest) you won't see a straight shot more than a quarter mile long or so. Above Ventucopa and a ways below it, the road flattens out as you traverse the east end of the Cuyama Valley, but if you're heading east to Bakersfield (or Bako as we so affectionally call it), you'll then have another half hour of curves, only wider and more desert like than where this pic was taken. it's a great drive but hardly anyone knows about it.
