Caught in the act..
Posted By: mtnbearhug, 03-31-2008, 07:40 PM

I have a little thief in my yard... lol.. Actually as you can tell by the pics it is a momma squirrel that has figured out a way of climbing up my bird feeder pole and stealing the nuts out of the feeder... Just a few fun shots of her thievery... enjoy...

She actually climbs up (what she holds on to I have no idea) the middle of the pole... then perches herself on top..

Then climbs her way over and down to the food.... She wraps her tail around the pole to help support her.. it is a kick in the pants to actually watch her... then she just hangs there hanging on to the top of the feeder with her back feet...

A couple close ups of her..

Love the close ups. Did you use your 80-200 that is in your signature?

Nice shots, just a quick qestion. Are those close ups crops or did the squirel really let you get so close???
We have squirels in back garden but even with Tamron 70-300 I can't get so close without cropping.

Nice shots. I gave up long ago trying to keep them out of the feeders.

I have the same red-capped feeder, the squirrels chewed the holes and made them big enough to pull out the goodies. And yes, mine were on a similar pole. Doesn't matter, I have a LOT of pictures of them climbing the pole. They are truely nature's acrobats.

Kim - nice series! We finally gave in and now feed the squirrels to try to keep them out of the bird feeders. One unfortunate side-effect has been that they now nest here every year, so the population in our yard seems to grow...exponentially. They do make for interesting subjects, though, don't they?

Here's one of my "caught in the act" shots. This is actually the squirrel feeder. Until the young ones figure out how the lid works, they try to gnaw their way in... probably about time to replace this one....

Thanks for sharing the pics!

Great series Kim but that last shot is excellent. Posed perfectly for you. Even if it's a crop the shot is nice and sharp with good colour. Well done series!!

That last shot is great Kim. He even looks like he feels a little bit guilty for stealing. But I bet he would do it again!
