Adding branches to the feeders..
Lens: A-400 Camera: K-3 Photo Location: Whitney, Ontario, Canada Aperture: F8

Cross posted from K-3 sample shots and https://www.pentaxforums.com/forums/122-lens-clubs/55946-300mm-plus-lens-club...enses-646.html

I've been moving tree branches around on my porch to try and get some more natural poses near the feeders… not there yet, but better.

Yes, the K-3 burst is great…but still trying to figure out how to get bird images that don't have the feeders.

Sharp and clear, Norm. The second pic comes pretty close to meeting your goal. Nice job, as usual.

I'm now thinking, take the old feeder down, go off into the woods and find a tree with branches heavy enough to hold the feeders…. get rid of the metal feeder altogether… the birds love those branches as perches, but they don't stay on them long enough for me to capture them, and I think the chickadees need a little bit heavier branches for breaking open seeds on… it's an on going project.

Even the suet looks good enough to eat Norm. I think I saw somewhere on the forum a post where the guy seeded the branches. He put suet, pnut butter, etc. into a pine cone or a hole in the tree or stuck into some moss. This gave the birds something to go for and the setting stayed natural looking. Good luck. The project will keep you busy at least.
Oh, almost forgot, the bird shots look so good.

Thanks slowpez, drilling half inch holes for suet and maybe grooving some branches are definitely possibilities..I was just thinking this morning, I have no finches this year so far. I'm going to have to do something for the birds that are happier foraging on large flat surfaecs, like my old deck rail.
