Hi Roy,
Really appreciated you posting the pictures of the red bird. Is it a cardinal? We don't have them here in Oz. Taking pics of birds out of cages is a lot of fun and can be a challenge, especially the small timid ones. I enjoy looking at all the different bird posts so keep posting them.

Cardinalis cardinalis

Arjay, it's a Northern Cardinal, Cardinalis cardinalis, and boy, do you folks in Oz miss out on a show. I wouldn't call them timid, either. No Jay, but plenty bold.

Beautiful roy! Now take some Blue Jay photos, shouldn't be so hard!

Only complaint, the eye and the surrounding black "patch" blend too much.

thanks for looking. these are one of the hardest birds around her to get. they are very skittish. i have at least 100 but these were the 1st i'd post.

as far as bluejays are concerned,,,, i'm still hunting.. they are even more skittish when it comes to humans.. as noisy as they are, i can understand..

Roy, as I implied above, some people don't realise that there is more to taking a bird in the wild shot than just pointing and shooting so your skills are appreciated.
As far as dynamic range goes have you tried fill flash. That is sure to make the next shot 5x harder to get

Cardinals are such beauitiful birds. I really love them. Never tired of seeing them here.

I love blue Jays, cardinals posted here. The red rich colour in the feathers are just irresistable!!

Have to say you got the red right on these.
Looks like he is wearing a burglar's mask over his eyes.
#1 detail is fine.

The second shot is fantastic, it's very dynamic and the green and gray sets off the red really well. Did you get a model release?
