Mongolia
Lens: DA15 & DA70 Camera: K-5 Photo Location: Mongolia
Posted By: kevinschoenmakers, 11-10-2013, 02:28 AM

I went to Mongolia in August as part of a train trip from Europe to China (I only now processed the photos because up until last week I didn't have a laptop). Photos were taken with a K-5 with the DA15 and the DA70 (should be obvious which is which). I really love that set for traveling - small yet very capable.

Please let me know what you think, be it positive or negative.

Awesome series ! Love the processing on them - they draws the attention in certain way, which I understand is your objective as a photographer.. but I do somehow miss some color at moments --manntax

Good series. Really like pic 12. Pic 6 doesn't work for me at all, three quarters of the frame is unremarkable sky, and I don't get the sense of space and scale that I think was intended. Be interested to see some of the color of the country too.

Do you mean 6 or 5?

Nice series I especially love the intimate portraits (7,16, 12 &10). I also think the sky dominated too much of the frame and I opine these would better treated with color. All in all great captures and awesome subjects.

I actually first edited them in color (even though I intended for the photos to be black and white), but then decided they lacked impact and gave black and white another try.

This series is powerful, moving. I really like it. #2 is my favourite. I think the monochrome gives a mood that you wouldn't have gotten otherwise.

It's good to see some Canadian games being played in #8 and is that the great wall back there in #6? Thanks for posting.

A very good and varied set, they really draw you in to the sense of place. The processing is very sympathetic to what looks like quite difficult, bright shooting conditions. The large ratio of sky doesn't really work for me in some of the scenes, notably 1 and 5 which I think could be really good with more conventional composition. Nonetheless there is something to like in all of these, make that a lot to like with some wonderfully timed moments. A really enjoyable set to view, thanks for sharing.

The Great Wall only runs through China. This is a wall surrounding a Monastery.
