Flock of Sea Gulls
Posted By: Mr Hyde, 04-01-2008, 06:23 PM

I posted some photos from my trip to NC in another thread but thought I'd post a few more gull shots. We were on a ferry to Ocracoke Island, NC and some guy was tossing crackers to the birds.

And here I thought the title would have sparked some interest. Maybe next time I should just call the thread "Random bird shots"

Scott, how do you do this so well. I try to get gulls all the time when they flock throught the marina, but never get them in focus. Up till now, I've consoled myself with blaming the sluggish Pentax AF system, but now I can't use that excuse!

Great job.

If I remember correctly, all these were taken with the DA 50-200 kit lens.

thanks for all the nice comments. taking all these photos really made the time on the ferry ride seem to fly by.

Those are great gull shots. They all seemed focused on whomever is throwing them food. Most Gulls I have seen are some of the best scavengers I have seen , always on the lookout for those funny two legged creates without wings that seem to alway have food ! Well done.

IIRC they had one or two single track I actually liked (produced by Bill Nelson?) and then they put out their album which was as slick as their hair. Downhill after that and oh so annoying.

Best captured with a Pentax SMC-FA* 80-200mm f/2.8 [IF] ED...

...with the lens cap on!

Oh, I remember Bill Nelson.... Be Bop Deluxe and a very interesting Solo career after that. I did not know he produced a track or two from the early Flock of Seagulls, I will go on ebait and look for it.

Sorry Mr Hyde,
A very good series of seagull shots. The second one is my favorite... Your seagulls are much more interesting looking than ours even though I think I see one of my seagulls in the back of that second shot. What is the old expression? "The gulls are always greener on the other side of the street."

He was in a habit of releasing 18 album boxed sets every other week or so.

He produced the a-side of AFOS first single "(It's Not Me) Talking", released in 1981 on his own Cocteau Records. Two years later this was tacked onto the group's album "Listen". Going back to 1981 he produced their second single "Telecommunication" (again only the a-side) which was included on their debut album, all other tracks produced by Mike Howlett.

So my memory served me right, it was two tracks over two singles. Can you tell I was a DJ in the eighties?

We have the normal gulls here too. Some are downright ugly. The Laughing Gulls are pretty cool however.
