Rainbow Lorikeets in Aus
Posted By: kev.pride, 04-01-2008, 08:26 PM

Took a series of photos of these Lorikeets in my neighbours front yard.

1st attempt to get close they all flew away. Not deterred I got in the car & drove across the road with the side window down - able to click away for some time.

The photos have been cropped but otherwise untouched.

Used Tamron 28-300 @300

The first 4 appear too dark to me, the birds that is. Last one is good.

Nicely done. I know how skittish they are. take off at anything. Have lots around my place. but difficult to get a decent shot. Rosellas I find even worse.(even with 400mm ) So I commend your effort.
Nice shots. I'll just have to keep working at it.

I have not been successful with Rosellas either Bruce.

Nice work Kev .... I was lucky enough when i was down in Narooma (NSW South coast) that I was able to shoot very tame rainbow lorikeets. They were literally eating out of my hand.

Great shot Simon. Yes lorikeets can eventually be tamed to feed from the hand. Ever been to the bird sanctuary at Currumbin, (if its still there)?. they were the most awesome, yet wild, example of that.

Now your post made me home sick about melbourne. These rosella are everywhere everyday. Quite good that you could capture them clear and sharp in focus with so many within the same frame at the same time!

Super shots Kevin, the last one is perfection, I love the pink background against the colorful feathers of these birds. My only suggestion would be to crop off the light top of the image which I find slightly distracting and the blured foliage on the right (just MHO). Thanks for sharing.
