Woodpecker here and gone
Lens: Sigma 70-300 macro Camera: K-3 Photo Location: Whitney, Ontario, Canada ISO: 800 Shutter Speed: 1/45s Aperture: F5.6

I was only out for a few minutes today…. there was a bit of sun… using the Sigma 70-300. Defintiely not enough light for a lens this slow.

Climbing the tree…

I'm outta here…

Ditto, Norm. Love the swirled hints of flight in the second shot. One of those "oh, damn" moments when shot but "Hey, not so bad" when downloaded.

I have quite a few of those "tail end of a bird disappearing out of the frame shots" none so artistic and interesting to look at as this one though

Amazing amount of detail in #1, especially considering the slow speed and the lens used! #2 looks more like a lot of my bird shots...

That IS a very nice woodpecker shot Norm, the second one looks like a lot of my attempts.

You have to have a few before you get a good one

Just looking through the 60-250, 70-210, A-400 and 70-300, this is definitely the softest, but being close makes up for a a lot of weakness in a lens.

Thanks Bob we have 4 kinds of birds at the feeder right now, so, you're just going to have to live with what we have

everyone seems to want to claim that one…

it's a burst shot, I try to anticipate when the bird will take off, and try to have burst mode going when they leave…
Those are 1180 and 1183, so there were two shots between them.. but maybe 8 in the burst...
