Thanks mole.
For this shot I wanted to get something like a Frederic Remington look, since it seemed to be the kind of thing he'd paint. So after basic adjustments in Aperture for saturation and the like I took this into OnOne Perfect Mask and substituted in a suitable big western kind of sky from my sky photo collection. I had to play the exposure of this sky to make it consistent with the landscape lighting. Then I took the new combined image into Topaz Simplify and chose the Buzzsim preset. This made the picture look a bit too abstract for me so I cranked the "simplify" slider down about 50%. I then brushed some of this simplify effect away over the horses to preserve a bit more detail there. Finally I brought the whole mess back into Aperture and played with the curves to get the lighting I wanted, and cranked up yellow intensity a shade. Whew!
