Arizona Ghost Town

The remains of the quarters that housed workers who made their living smelting copper in Swansea, Arizona, circa 1895. Each year the ghost town dimishes from natural and man-made decay; it is located about 40 miles east of Parker, Arizona, which is on the Colorado River. Swansea was a metropolis in the late 1800s, complete with electric lights, telegraph and an automobile dealership. The town's demise was caused by the declining price of copper; by 1910, it was a ghost town. It was a long, hot trek by Jeep to see this crumpling wonder, but well worth it.

More Swansea Shots

Thanks for asking...I dug out a couple more shots of Swansea, although the first one is my favorite. The town had an interesting history; it grew fast, burned bright, burnt out quickly, and almost nothing's left. You can imagine ghosts might about when you're out there in stillness among the ruins.

Thanks for that, & a bit more history.
There's great atmosphere in deserted historical buildings....anywhere....IMHO.
Thanks, Pickles.
