How High Can You Fly
Photo Location: Nevada
Posted By: Bob Harris, 11-17-2013, 07:53 PM

just happened to have my 60-320mm lens on when I noticed this Redtail Hawk soaring overhead. I still had to crop the image a bit, but overall happy to get a photo of this bird in the desert.

This was the best of the seven I ran off while it was flying overhead Bruce and was happy to get as good of results with as high as it was.

Good to see a western Red Tail. They can get very high, almost specs in binoculars, amazing birds, and playful. I watched one last Saturday spiral way up, really very high expecting it to stream off in migration, and then it went into a 1,000 foot stoop, amazing. I volunteer at a hawk watch site every year. Pairs can really have fun, and I saw some of that Saturday, too.

I only get to see them as luck has it, to see as you state would be quite an experience. I have never seen them in pairs, I would imagine they hunt in patterns. I was fortunate to take a photo of a Harris hawk in flight earlier this year in AZ, it was hunting and flew by us about 50 feet away to its target so the photo wasn't in perfect focus, just a point/shoot. thanks for your response. Bob.
