Karsh used a similar technique to get a similar look from Winston Churchill. He took out the cigar, rather than a dummy. http://www.britannica.com/blogs/wp-content/uploads/2010/12/churchill.jpg

Thanks Bob. Don't get to see them enough, 1650 kilometers away.

Thanks John. I hope he stays with the dummy.

Super capture of your grandson. Very expressive portrait … so expressive I imagine I can hear his thoughts.

Awesome!

Just one thing. K-3 w/ DA* 16-50 @ f/5. This seems egregiously soft to me and compared to what I'm used to with multiple copies of the DA* 16-50. Perhaps at f/2.8 (I admit that despite my love for that lens, it isn't the best at 2.8), but f/5? It should be tack sharp! Hopefully it's just the monitor of my work laptop, but still....is it just me?

-Heie

Edit: Just checked again at home, no difference.

What a beautiful grandson. Make the most of these years as they won't last long.

ISO 1600, moving target natural light, my hands, JPEG and edited with iPhoto on an iPad, that's about what I'd expect.

Otherwise, thanks for your kind words.
