How to eat an Eel
Lens: DA*300mm Camera: K-5 Photo Location: Huntington Beach SP, SC
Posted By: slowpez, 11-20-2013, 10:57 AM

We had a wonderful week at this state park and I found that I couldn't take the 300 off the camera. So much going on.

First you have to pluck the eel out of the muck

Make sure it is clean

Try to get it into your beak, preferably head first

Hopefully you can unwind it

Keep swallowing until you get it all in, especially the last bit

Close your eyes and enjoy. Don't forget to swallow

One of my better attempts Bob. In the last shot, if you look closely, you can still see the eel in the Ibis' mouth.

Ick! I see my idea of a good meal differs from the Ibis.

Do they always close their eyes when swallowing? Are they like frogs, using their eyes to help them swallow?

Thanks all. Scratchpaddy, I have no idea how the Ibis eat and they aren't telling.
Thanks Fries, I enjoyed the show it put on also. The hours between the high tides are so fantastic for watching the birds feed.
Nice of you to comment so kindly Trev. I appreciate it.

A captivating series of well executed shots. Thanks for posting!

Huntington Beach sounds like a marvelous park - and apparently exotic for us northerners. Maybe some day...
