Mirage at Fighterworld
Lens: PENTAX-DA 18-55mm F3.5-5.6 AL WR Camera: K10D Photo Location: Williamtown, NSW ISO: 200 Shutter Speed: 1/4s Aperture: F8

Yesterday (Nov 21) I went to a fighter plane museum called Fighterworld at Williamtown, near Newcastle. It is located in a small corner of the Williamtown Air Base. The awesome display of planes is very crowded with difficult lighting. This is my favourite for the day.

Thanks, Ray.

I didn't even know about the place. Well, I know about RAAF Willamtown, but not Fighterworld.

Looks like I have a motorbike ride to do.

Looks good Ray. I was there a few years ago, but you've inspired me to go back on one of these wet days and take some shots.

Regards

No problem. You won't be disappointed. There are two display areas. The one above and another with older panes - Spitfires and a Messerschmitt:

It is worth another visit. This was my second visit and there are a few new planes that were not there when I first visited. And I would be happy to go again.
Maybe we could arrange a Pentaxian group outing.

Nice work, Ray. The Mirage is one of the most elegant little warplanes of the jet era, IMHO, and capable of Mach 2, to boot. Your K10D similarly holds up well against later developments. I take the skill of the photographer as going without saying, of course!

Oh, yes, I agree. The Mirage is a very pretty plane. One of the best they had on display.

And thanks for your kind words. The K10D is the only DSLR I have owned so I just had to learn how to get the best out of it. Many years using Spotmatics didn't hurt either.

Great shot! Cool! Looks like they have added a couple of really nicely restored aircraft to the collection since I was there! I don't remember seeing the F111, or the silver Mirage being so shiny. My first experience of Williamtown as a chlid was waiting beside the runway in a twin engined light plane while an entire squadron of Mirages landed. Awesome! I just checked my photos and it looks like they have completely rearranged the aircraft on display to make room for the F111 - which strictly speaking isn't a fighter. Here's what was on display back in 2010:

Two Mirage III-O, de Havilland Vampire, Singaporean Hawker Hunter, Indian Mig 21, Macchi trainer, Avon Sabre, Gloster Meteor and in the foreground a model of the Boomerang WW2 Australian designed and built fighter.

That Stearman has the same no. FK-107 as one in Ontario
Air-Britain : FK107

Thanks, Bob. Yes, it is a great place and I could go back again. I just wish it was not so crowded. They have not considered photographers at all.

Great shots Ray.
Did you go out on the back deck to watch the F/A-18's doing touch and goes?
Occasionally you see some arrestor landings as well.
