Do you still have your first shots with a DSLR?
Posted By: Peter Zack, 04-03-2008, 10:32 AM

I thought I had lost the first shot I took with the K110D. It was the jump from the PZ-1p and I remember the day when the box arrived in the mail. I opened the package, waited impatiently while the batteries charged and there it was sitting on the desk... I added a 50mm M f1.7 and the sun was hitting a CD on my desk. Took about 20 shots of that CD and the first of the lot was the image below. Just like Christmas that entire afternoon.
My son now has that camera and enjoys it almost as much as I did.

I was going through all the images I have from the camera and trying to somehow get things organized. I thought the early ones were all gone.

So post your shots if you still have them and any comments about your first experiences.

My DS was up to ~18K shots when I sold it to a friend in July 2007. My K10D had about 8000 shots when I sold it to switch to Canon this past winter.
Here is one of my last Pentax shots, with my beloved FA 35mm f/2.0 (wide open @ISO800)

Here is my very first shot, *istD with F17-28 Fish-Eye zoom. I had puchased that lens earlier for my ZX-5N film camera. The date was November 3, 2003. Handheld 1/6 sec, no flash:

This is the very first shot I took with my brand new k10d in Novemeber 2006.

Desperate for something to shoot, it is a shot into the canyon behind my home. Taken in P mode which is how I had the camera for the first couple days I shot with it.
Here is another one from the first day with my k10d. I went down to the river to get this one. The top shot is with the kit lens and the second with the 50-200

Didn't keep my first test shots which were just to make sure the camera worked ok. I just bought a camera body at first not realising that I would not simply be able to use the 35-80mm lens off my MZ-70 as a kit lens on the K10D due to the crop factor on a DSLR. The first photos I took were on a holiday in Tenerife in Feb 2007. This was one of the first.

It's fun to see these shots. Most of you post stuff fairly regularly and even though some of these are pretty good, I can see a noticable improvement in everyones stuff. We've all come a long way is a fairly short time.

Fun shot Ken, willing model in a very casual pose.
Nice shot Rob, makes having the camera worth every penny.
Very nice Heron shot Laree
Paul, you lucky dog, you seem to have the time and $$ to see some beautiful parts of the world and soon we'll have you flying the red and white in your yard!

All of the $$ go on seeing the beautiful parts Peter. Perhaps I should cut back so I could afford something like a Sigma 500mm, but I don't think my wife would be convinced. I hope you're right about being able to fly the flag. All in the lap of the gods now. Should hear something in the next month or two.
