We call 'em vanity plates here in Texas. A few years ago, I got one for my sports car with (I think) a clever allusion to the car's character and builder. It cost a 190 bucks US, which I assumed (not reading the fine print) was a one-time extortion and that my yearly registration would revert to the usual 65 dollars or so once a year had passed. Not true
; I get to pay the 190 every year. I couldn't make myself give them up, so they're still with me - on a new car from the same manufacturer. Makes no sense - but, I ain't getting any younger and you can't take it with you.
