The Milky Way
Lens: Samyang 14mm f2.8 Camera: Pentax K5 Photo Location: Sointula, BC, Canada ISO: 1600 Shutter Speed: Above 6s Aperture: F3.5
Posted By: SointulArt, 11-30-2013, 06:47 PM

Last weekend the sky cleared and the seeing was good around 9:30pm. This is a shot of the Milky Way taken from our front deck, with a 2 minute exposure using the O-GPS1 astrotracer function. The small blub of yellow/green on the bottom of the image is the top of a cedar tree, slightly blurred due to the long exposure.

The image was developed from DNG Raw in Lightroom. Some contrast adjustments and background gradient subtraction performed in Photoshop CS4.

I hope you enjoy the view!

cheers
Darryl

Nice especially from the front deck. Must be a bit rural, little light pollution.

Yes, it's a fairly quiet part of the world. The town of Port McNeill is about 5kms away, which does cause a bit of light pollution, but nothing like being in a large city. The only problem here, is that it is a maritime environment, so clear skies at night are something to be thankful for

cheers
