Slice of Light

I was walking around downtown Phoenix a few days ago, and I cut through the valet drop-off for the Sheraton, Arizona's tallest hotel. The gap between that building and the parking garage next to it was very small, and I thought the effect was interesting.

Creates an optical illusion for me at first. The building on the left looked like night sky when I first saw it. Cool.

Man, what a cool shot - that's really seeing a picture that most of us, most of the time would miss. You might try a B&W conversion to see how that affects the feel of the photo.

That's cool! I like hearing about what other people see in my pictures. I never would have thought of that.

Thanks Ray. The city has a lot of cool lines to follow.

Thanks Jer. I always walk around the city gazing up at the towers with wonder, looking like an idiot. Nobody ever looks up! Have you noticed that?

I actually tried B&W first, but I didn't like what it did to the bushes. I liked that splash of green in there, so went back to color. In both versions, I killed the shadows to emphasize the little puddle of light filtering in from the small gap far above. You know, maybe I should have desaturated the colors besides green a little more, to emphasize those bushes I like so much. That's what I love about photography: there's so many ways to do things, even after you've taken the picture.

I think you got it just right the first time - the B&W works nicely, but the green plants do the trick. Terrific stuff.
