No respect at all from this hummingbird that landed and stuck his tongue out.

Fair enough! I saw roadrunners in the desert and hummingbirds in California. Both very cool!
Here's one for you Rob

Well spotted - I was referring to the grass.

Costa's Hummingbird are birds of California and Arizona deserts. They stray up to southern BC sometimes but not very often. Awesome shot!

Hummers of any species are very rare here in south Florida. Amazing capture, Bob!

Jack, every year about September in the Rocky mountains near Colorado Springs they migrate south, sometimes we had 20 birds around our feeders, really a sight to see, but I'm not sure if they are Costas though.

that is a big surprise to me Julie, I figured with the weather, insects and flowers there that would be the place to live. That's where all the RV'ers are.

Odd, yes, but true. Quite rare, I've only seen three outside captivity. Not at all common in South Florida. I think a few of them pass through on the way somewhere else. The botanic garden had several inside the butterfly conservatory but they vanished; the staff think that predators -- likely snakes -- got them. Very sad, they were beautiful creatures.

We have found them in all the areas that we have visited, including Death Valley. We will have to head your way next year to see if we can bring some luck with us. In fact as cold as it is right now in Nevada, I wish we were there right now. Thanks for the info. Bob
