Spring in Rockford blooms
Posted By: codiac2600, 04-06-2008, 10:02 AM

Finally the first signs of spring have sprung!

I've been experimenting with a new approach to my style of photography which I think really shows in these images.

All shot with K20D and sigma 105mm macro in full manual exposure and focus.

Purple power

Purple blur

Purple art

Purple ocean sunrise

Purple twist

Purple trio

Wonderful captures Chris. There is something almost magical about the combo of backlighting and macro/closeup of flowers. The fourth shot where you put the hard focus on the orange stamens is an absolute standout!

Beautiful shots Chris. They are like little purple lanterns with the way the light is hitting them. My favorite is the last one (ah, maybe the second to the last ). Those are probably some of the best flower shots I have seen in awhile IMHO.

Thanks Salty and it was such a gorgeous day that I had to roll in the dirt for these shots.

And yeah, it's silly, but I gotta protect my investment in a way.

When you experiment, I always learn something. My favourite of this great series is by far, Purple Art. Veru impressionistic.

I have a question. They appear to be lit from inside each flower. It doesn't look like they are lit from below or behind. did you have a light above the flowers that was dim and focused or something inside the flowers themselves. (i know there are some very small LED lights these days that could do this).

Actually these were fresh blooms, like 10 minutes after they sprung out and it was the morning sun pointed right into them that illuminated them. It's a once in a great while kind of environment and I still haven't washed my sweater I was rolling in the dirt in to get these.

Chris, interesting experimentation on the flowers. I am always a softie for bokeh and you execute it well with bokeh all around the stamen. It is really the purple wonder that grabs my attention to the images. Very nice series

Hi Chris,
Very effective. 1 & 3 would make outstanding prints.

An aside question: how are you 'watermarking' your photos... specific software or photoshop?

Cheers
Grant
